Dubai Carpet Shopping

Dubai is one of the best places in the world to buy a Persian carpet. That is because it is located so close to Iran and they have been close trading partners for years. That said make sure you have done your homework before you arrive. Visit your local carpet dealers at home first. That will give you a baseline understanding of what is a good bargain for you. If your local dealer has just gotten in a big shipment he might be offering competitive prices. Many carpet dealers have websites as well. We strongly discourage you from buying a carpet online, but it is a great way to become familiar with the styles and prices. (keep in mind that there may be some deals online that really aren't.)

After arriving in Dubai, take your time and look at as many different styles and shops as necessary to find your perfect one. Refreshments are frequently offered as visitors sit and watch as stack after stack of carpets are pulled out for display. If you love art and design you will quickly discover that Persian Carpet shops are museums. Be sure to take the time to appreciate what is before your eyes. Many of them will represent a year’s work by the artist who created it. Most shops carry a combination of new carpets just like the ones in the shop down the street, as well as antiques that you will never see the likes of again. We don’t mean to suggest that new carpets are inferior, but you are likely to see pretty much the same color and design from shop to shop. Pass up on that special rare carpet and may regret it for a long time.

Some things to think about if you decide to take home a few beautiful Middle Eastern rugs:

Research the shopping areas carefully. Buying from a mall does not guarantee the price or quality of a carpet. There are great deals to be had but take steps that you get what you pay for. You don’t want to pay Cadillac prices for a Volkswagen!

Know what you are willing to spend before going shopping. You may not be able to obtain the best local price but should be able to get a good result if you stick to carpets within your price range. There are so many wonderful high quality expensive carpets that are tempting so keep your budget in mind.

Decide what style of carpet you like before starting to purchase. There are available resources in books and online to help become familiar with the various kinds of carpets from all parts of the world. What do you like and are willing to pay? When shopping ask questions about the price and the quality of each kind of carpet and then test that quality and price against other stores. Also keep in mind what you want a carpet for i.e. floor, wall hanging, etc. Silk carpets are the most expensive as the yarn is expensive and they have significantly more knots per square inch. Consequently they are more likely to be used as wall hangings.

When you have found your favorite carpet then settle down to reach that mutually agreeable price. Remember don’t bid on anything you are not interested in buying offer no more than 30% less than what you are willing to pay. People will always say they got a better price but it’s really about you and that you end up with a carpet you love at a reasonable cost.

  11. Annapurna base camp Trekking, hiking
The Annapurna Sanctuary is “high glacial basin lying forty km directly north of Pokhara. This oval-shaped plateau sits at an altitude of over 4000 metres, and is surrounded by a ring of mountains, the Annapurna range, most of which are over 7000 metres. With the only entrance a narrow pass between the peaks of Hiunchuli and Machapuchare, where run-off from glaciers drain into Modi Khola River, the Sanctuary was not penetrated by outsiders until 1956. Because of high mountains on all sides, the Annapurna Sanctuary receives only 7 hours of sunlight a day at the height of summer. The unique combination of heights and depths in the Annapurna Sanctuary give rise to an extraordinary variety of ecosystems. The south-facing slopes are “covered in dense tropical jungles of rhododendron and bamboo”, while the north-facing slopes, in the rain shadow, have “a drier colder climate similar to that of the near-by Tibetan Plateau.”
The entire sanctuary was held as sacred to the Gurung people, one of the many native people to inhabit the area. They believed it was the repository of gold and various treasures left by the Nāgas, the serpent-gods known in India. The sanctuary was believed to be the home of several deities, from Hinduism and Buddhism as well the older animistic gods. The peak of Machapuchare at the entrance was believed to be the home of the god Shiva, and the daily plumes of snow were thought the smoke of his divine incense. Until recently, the local Gurung people forbade anyone from bringing eggs or meat into the Annapurna Sanctuary, and women and untouchables were prohibited from going there as well.
In recent years, the number of trekkers to the Sanctuary has increased substantially, in part because the Sanctuary forms the base of one of the major routes to the peaks of the Annapurna range. The Annapurna Sanctuary is now part of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project, which places restrictions on number of outside travelers, gathering of firewood, and domestic animal grazing.

  12. Annapurna Base Camp trek begins north of the Lake city Pokhara which is reached by a 6-7 hour tourist bus ride and a 25 minute scenic flight from Kathmandu. It begins at the village of Nayapul at just 1090m (1½ hours drive from Pokhara) and climbs gradually up the Modi Khola Valley through natural forests of oak, rhododendron, pine and bamboo. Villages are sited on ridges high above the river where slopes are gentle enough for terraced farming.
The climax of the 12 days Annapurna Base Camp trek is reached in the spectacular Annapurna Sanctuary amphitheatrewhere you will first pass the Machhapuchhare (Fish Tail) Base Camp (3700m/12 139ft) en route to ABC (4130m/13 550ft). Here you are surrounded by an immense and breathtaking wall of rock and ice reaching heights from 6 500 – 8 091m and dramatised by closer rocky outcrops rising above the U-shaped valley gouged out by the glacier. Cloud frequently forms in the late morning making for enticing glimpses of an ever changing landscape: at sunrise it is frequently still and clear offering viewers, photographers a surfeit of possibilities.
The downward journey only requires 2 to 3 nights with one spent at Jhinu Danda for a visit to the hot springs. The last morning requires a short trek to Phedi and a half hour drive back to your hotel in Pokhara.
Our Annapurna Base Camp trek cost includes permits transport to and from Kathmandu, full accommodation whilst on trek, all meals and safe drinking water. Your guide will brief you each evening about the following day’s trek and variations to the itinerary will be made to suit the needs of your group.

Nepal is safe for traveling! According to the information from various sources such as Trekking Agencies Association (TAAN) and Nepal Tourism Board, Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp,Annapurna Circuit , Upper Mustang ,Dolpa, , Kanchenjunga Trek ,Ghorepani Poon hill, Jomsom Trek and Rara are safe for trekking, Pokhara tour, Chitwan safari tour, and Lumbini tour . Therefore, I personally went up to the Annapurna Base Camp on the first week of June. The purpose is to access the condition of the trek as to ensure the safety of the clients in the upcoming autumn season trek from September to November. The condition of the mountain is safe. All the lodges still good. The mountains still look beautiful as before. Do not hesitate to put Nepal as your travel wish list in next season. The beautiful country awaits you to visit. You support will help the country to rebuilt.
